What is Peel and stick wallpaper?

Peel and stick wallpaper is not just an oilcloth with a printed pattern. This building material consists of several layers: the base, on which the adhesive mass is applied from the lower side, as well as a decorative layer, which is applied from the upper side of the main layer.

Peel and Stick wallpaper installation

By its functionality, peel and stick wallpaper performs not only the usual role of decorating and protecting walls. Since such a material is produced with a different pattern and imitation of different textures, it can also be used in the following cases:

  • renovation of damaged furniture surfaces, including in children’s rooms and after pets;
  • wallpapering to update the interior of the room;
  • creating a single interior in a room by pasting wallpaper on furniture, giving them the same color and pattern;
  • creating design accents, including when creating paintings, panels using patchwork techniques;
  • protection of the work surface from moisture, paint and other non-corrosive substances.

Attention! The adhesive mass used for applying to the adhesive layer is not safe enough and is not desirable for use for surface treatment in the kitchen or in children's rooms.

Wallpapering Studio

Like any material, peel and stick wallpaper has its strengths and weaknesses. Let’s get to know them in more detail.

Advantages:

  • a versatile decorative and facing material that can be used on most surfaces;
  • it is not afraid of the effects of moisture and alkaline solutions, maintaining its attractive appearance for a long time;
  • sufficiently durable and reliable coating, characterized by increased elasticity;
  • affordable cost, which allows you to significantly save your budget;
  • possibility of use in rooms with different humidity levels, including bathrooms;
  • high availability and prevalence, as the material can be found in any hardware store.

Disadvantages:

  • produce blockage of the room, prevent good air circulation in the room;
  • in order for the wallpaper to stick well to the surface, it must be prepared, otherwise bubbles and creases will form on it;
  • the material cannot be glued to a lime surface and one on which traces of grease and dirt remain;
  • low-quality material can quickly peel off and crumple;
  • if you stretch the canvas too much, it can tear or deform the drawing;
  • it is impossible to glue it again, if you need to correct the drawing or pattern, you will need to take a new canvas;
  • it is necessary to use various special liquids to slide the canvas along the wall to compose a single picture;
  • it is necessary to apply a special thin layer of glue for good wallpaper styling;
  • the difficulty of installing and drawing up a drawing due to a poor-quality applied pattern (as a rule, this is a low-quality wallpaper);
  • it quickly deforms when exposed to sharp or scratching objects.

If the peel and stick wallpaper has a smell, can it be used? At first, self-adhesive wallpaper can emit an unobtrusive smell, which will pass in 1-2 weeks.
